With Trevor Bayne getting a full-time ride for 2015 with Roush-Fenway Racing, that left Bayne’s old part time ride with the Wood Brothers looking for a new driver.
While there was some speculation (and hope from the ClosetNASCARFan.com clan) that that seat would be filled by Sam Hornish, Jr., the ride’s been filled with another known, but younger driver.
Ryan Blaney will run part time in the Sprint Cup series, driving the Wood Brothers’ famous No. 21 Ford, along with Nationwide Series races for Team Penske as part of a technical alliance between Penske and the Wood Brothers.
Blaney’s relationship with Penske stretches into the Camping World Truck Series as well, where Blaney is leading in the points standings, driving Brad Keselowski Racing No. 29 Ford.
Like past seasons, the Wood Brothers will run only select dates — ones where they’ve deemed they have the best chances for success and winning big purses.
