Two veteran drivers with new Sprint Cup teams in 2015 will be making their public debuts in the car numbers next week at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Earlier this week, it was announced Goodyear would be doing a tire test at the Concord, NC track with four teams.
Carl Edwards, moving from long-time home at Roush-Fenway Racing over to the new fourth team at Joe Gibbs Racing will be the sole representative for both JGR and Toyota at the two-day test on Dec. 9-10.
Fresh back to the Sprint Cup series in the No. 9 of Richard Petty Motorsports, Sam Hornish, Jr. will, like Edwards, be the sole representative for his team, as well as for his manufacturer (Ford).
Both drivers are new to their manufacturers in 2015, so it’s likely JGR and RPM saw it important to get the drivers seat time prior to the 2015 Daytona Speedweeks. Outside of tire testing, 2015’s new rule banning testing will prohibit drivers from getting much seat time away from actual race weekends.
Chevrolet will be represented by Hendrick Motorsports No. 88 driver, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., as well as a driver from Richard Childress Racing, though RCR officials declined to confirm which team would be involved.
