And just like that, the 2017 NASCAR season is over. Are you already jonesin’ for more race content? If you’ve got an hour and a half to spare, check out this video of an iRacing Xfinity Talladega session recorded back in October that ended up getting posted on YouTube. The actual Tony Stewart was racing in the No. 8 Ford, trying to get his “A” license.
iRacing – Online Race Car Simulator
In case you’re not familiar with iRacing, it’s a racing simulator that allows you to race all kinds of racing from Cup cars to street stocks. If you’ve ever been to the NASCAR Hall of Fame in uptown Charlotte, NC, iRacing is the software being run on the simulators there. It’s an easy way to try our iRacing, albeit with a lot of less-than-skilled competitors.
Tony Stewart – Just one of the Guys
Stewart fielded a bunch of questions — especially during the numerous cautions. He took it all in stride and drove a decent race. He answered questions about SHR and about various forms of racing and competitors.
There’s obviously a bit of language throughout, but it’s very enjoyable to hear Stewart’s voice throughout the race.
“Man, I’m just happy to be here and hope that I can make enough money on this race to pay for my tires and have some gas money to get home,” he joked under caution, an hour and thirteen minutes into the session.
Tony Stewart was completely cool and candid throughout the race, and chatted with everyone throughout, humoring the vast majority of questions people asked over the radio. It was before the announcement of the driver of the Number 10 for 2017, so a lot of people were joking about that, and trying to get info out Stewart.
Stewart communicated well, and let people by, trying to stay out of trouble and gain points in the iRacing system. On one of the last restarts, coming to the green, with a damaged virtual No. 8, Stewart told the guys behind him he’d go high on the green flag and they could shoot the middle to pass him.
Since the video was recorded a month ago, I’m assuming by now Stewart has gotten his “A” license in iRacing. If you’ve got an iRacing subscription, don’t be surprised if a few actual NASCAR drivers pop up from time-to-time on the racing simulation.
