Richard Childress Racing has now officially appealed the penalties against driver Ryan Newman’s No. 31 team for allegedly manipulating race tires, or as it’s been talked about around the track — needling the tires.
NASCAR this week said tires taken from Newman after the March 22 race in California failed an independent inspection and had been altered to intentionally release air pressure during the race. No date for the appeal was set Thursday.
RCR requested deferral of penalties with their appeal. NASCAR granted for suspension and fines, but not for points. If RCR were to prevail, points would be reinstated.
