Seems like there’s some new breaking news or headline every morning related to Sprint Cup.
This morning is no different. NAPA is severing its relationship with MWR at the end of 2013 after the controversies surrounding the end of the race in Richmond a few weeks back.
NAPA was in the first year of a three year extension being the primary sponsor of Martin Truex Jr’s No. 56.
In an era where it’s difficult to get companies to sponsor a ride for a full season, it’s unfortunate MWR is losing this sponsor they had locked up through 2015.
It’s also unfortunate that Truex had little to nothing to do with the Richmond fiasco and he and his team are the ones most impacted. We haven’t heard from the other MWR primary sponsors yet (Clint Bowyer’s 5 Hour Energy & Brian Vickers’ Aaron’s). My fear is that with NAPA heading out the door, we may see an announcement from 5 Hour Energy soon. My guy is Aaron’s will stick by Vickers, just penning that deal recently.
Really hoping MWR can find sponsorship for their three cars for next year and beyond.
