As NASCAR heads into its third race weekend of the 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, Kasey Kahne has a little more confidence. In the first race of the West Coast swing, Kahne, with his new team for 2018 are making their second stop at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Kahne tested a month ago at the pre-season test held at the Nevada track.
Kahne, and the rest of the No. 95 Leavine Family Racing team fought at an ill-handling racecar last weekend in Atlanta. Heading West for the next few weeks, the single-car team is planning to utilize a combination of the information gathered at the pre-season Vegas test, along with as Kahne’s prior experience at the mile and a half race track.
Kahne’s Las Vegas Success
Kahne has a total of three poles and a pair of runner-up finishes at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Kahne said he enjoys competing at the intermediate track, which he noted feels similar to Charlotte Motor Speedway where he has won four times.
“I’ve always thought Vegas was really good for me,” said Kahne.
“Vegas and Charlotte are pretty similar — maybe not the actual shape of the track, but the pavement is really similar with the grip level and the bumps. I’ve won at Charlotte and have come close to winning at Las Vegas a few times, so I’m looking forward to this weekend.”
Settling into a New Team
The new No. 95 driver says he feels like things are going well at LFR for his first season for the team. He says there’s a ton of potential.
“We are trying to progress and learn as we go,” Kahne said.
“Everyone has the same attitude so that makes it really nice.”
Kahne will kick off the West Coast swing with a Victory Tour at Auto Club Speedway on Thursday before heading to Las Vegas Motor Speedway for Friday’s first on-track practice.
Revised Paint Scheme
This weekend will mark a revision to the WRL paint scheme. LFR will show off an updated look of their classic WRL General Contractors scheme in Las Vegas. The weekend will culminate in the Pennzoil 400 presented by Jiffy Lube on Sunday, March 4 at 3:30 pm ET.
