Questions about who will drive the No. 41 and where Kurt Busch will be next season have finally been answered.
After a long time of waiting to find out the final driver in the lineup of the four-car Stewart-Haas Racing Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series for 2018, yesterday the final piece was announced. Kurt Busch will return to the No. 41 in 2018.
The 2018 season marks the second season for SHR driving Fords. Busch won his 2004 Cup championship with the Ford Motor Company.
Kurt Busch’s Statement
Having my hard work pay off by winning the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup and the 2017 Daytona 500 has given me the drive to continue conquering the NASCAR world. I am excited to enter the 2018 racing season as a Monster Energy athlete where I will continue to drive my favorite manufacturer, the Ford Motor Company. Knowing that SHR is committed to optimum performance, I believe that I have everything I need to win races this season and take home the 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup. I look forward to taking on next year with my team, sponsors and determination. Here’s to 2018!
Monster Energy Sponsorship
Based on Busch’s statement, it sounds like Monster Energy will be back on the No. 41 in 2018. There has been no word yet on whether the energy drink company will extend their title sponsorship for the Cup Series beyond 2018 though.
Busch started the 2017 season out on a high note—winning the Daytona 500, and giving Ford/SHR bragging rights of winning their first race together out of the gate.
While that ended up being his only win of 2017, Busch ended the season with 6 top 5’s 15 top 10’s and a single pole. He only led 16 laps in 2017—down from 238 laps in 2016.
