It will be a bit easier to pick out the four Hendrick Motorsports cars this weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway. In tribute to teammate Jeff Gordon, racing his final race this weekend, all four HMS cars will have the bright yellow numbers typically seen on the No. 24.
Jeff Gordon himself, will be in a special silver-base color paint scheme for his final race, while the other three Hendrick drivers will be in their own paint schemes with modified door, roof and other panel numbers being the electric yellow.
For the 48 and 5 cars, it will be a return to paint schemes of past years, but is a new look for Dale Jr.’s No. 88.
The three teammates of Gordon chimed in on honoring Gordon:
I know running his iconic yellow numbers at Homestead will be a great way to honor him and show him my respect as he makes his last start. He will always be one of the greatest drivers of all time. He’s as good as it gets. — Kasey Kahne
…it’s just a great tribute to Jeff and all he has done for this organization and even for me personally. If it wasn’t for him, I might not be where I am today. I think it’s going to be really cool-looking for all of the teammates to run the yellow and a fitting tribute to a true champion. — Jimmie Johnson
A lot of people were involved with making Hendrick Motorsports what it is, but Jeff’s had a huge hand in that and I think it’s great for the company and the drivers to acknowledge his last ride. — Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
Jeff Gordon, with his win at Martinsville, is the only HMS driver still eligible for the Sprint Cup Championship in 2015, setting it up to possibly be a walk-off championship in the No. 24 driver’s final Sprint Cup appearance.
