The final race of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series is coming up quickly. It marks the only time the teams visit Homestead-Miami Speedway during the season. The duo of Front Row Motorsports drivers weigh-in on the South Florida track.
Ragan on Homestead
No. 38 driver, David Ragan says the Homestead-Miami track is a great track.
“You can run fast a couple of laps on the bottom,” he started.
“You can move through the middle a little bit. But the fastest line around Homestead is right against that wall. It’s risk versus reward. You know you have to be there to find that extra little bit of grip that the racetrack still has to use that extra banking.”
Ragan said a slip up of just a few inches can get you into the wall when running the high line.
“And our cars aren’t as tough as they used to be,” he said.
“They’re a lot more sensitive to a little bit of damage here and there.”
The No. 38 Front Row Motorsports driver said the November weekend at the Southern Florida track is a cool weekend for the entire sport of NASCAR, with all the championships ending there.
“I enjoy that weekend,” he said.
“It’s got a little bit of a party atmosphere because everyone’s happy to see the end of the season come. We’ve got a lot of good things to look forward to in 2019, but we still have some unfinished business that last race of the year. We definitely want to have a good run for 1000Bulbs.com and end the season on a high note.”
Ragan’s Homestead Statistics
Over David Ragan’s NASCAR career, he’s got a total of 11 starts, with a single top-10 finish, a trio of top 20’s, and a best finish of 10th.
McDowell on Homestead
No. 34 driver, Michael McDowell agreed that Homestead-Miami was a great track with the fact you can run the car all around the track.
“You can run the fence, or I was able to run the bottom last year and had a pretty decent finish,” he said.
“You definitely have options there. More than anything, the season’s winding down and there’s a lot of excitement around Ford Championship Weekend.”
McDowell said while he’s not in the playoffs, he’s hopeful to see a Ford back in both victory lane and with the 2018 championship.
“They’ve had the speed this year, so hopefully they can finish it off,” he said.
Mcdowell’s Homestead Statistics
McDowell has had a total of 8 starts at the track, matching Ragan’s best finish at 10th place.
